Spiritual Victories

November 2, 2015

Read Joshua 10:1-14, 25.
If you're a Christian, you know that there are spiritual battles.  We face them every day.  In fact, the Bible addresses these battles often.  Ephesians 12:5 says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."  Spiritual battles happen every day.  You may have even faced a spiritual battle today.  But you should know that, as a Christian, we can have victory in these battles.  The first thing we need to realize is that in order to have spiritual victory, we must rely on God's help.  Luke 18:27 says, "The things which are impossible with men are possble with God."  We cannot win spiritual battles without God's help.  When Joshua sought the Lord's help with Jericho, they won.  When he didn't seek the Lord, they lost.  Why?  Because you cannot have spiritual victory without the Lord's help.  We need to pray that God will help us.  When Joshua prayed for God's help, God gave him the victory.  After Joshua prayed, he trusted that God would give them the victory that He promised.  Then, after he had prayed and trusted in God, Joshua had to take action.  He had to go to battle and fight the enemy.  He couldn't just pray and then sit idle.  The same is true for us in spiritual battles.  We aren't just given defensive armor.  We are also given a sword and shield.  We have to be active in spiritual battles.  How?  Read God's Word.  Pray.  Hide God's Word in our your heart.  When we pray, when we trust God and take action, God will be working behind the scenes to ensure our spiritual victory.
